What types of medical oxygen regulators are commonly used in the Zambian market?

1、 Classified by structure and working principle

Single stage regulator
Simple structure, suitable for scenarios with minimal pressure fluctuations, such as small clinics, home oxygen therapy, etc. It is widely used in primary healthcare institutions and home care in Zambia.
Double stage regulator
Two stage pressure reduction, more stable output pressure, suitable for scenarios with large inlet pressure fluctuations or long-distance gas supply, such as large hospital central oxygen supply systems, ICUs, etc. It is also used in some central hospitals in Zambia.

Piston type regulator
The structure is sturdy and resistant to high pressure, suitable for high-pressure environments such as hospitals and industries, and is commonly found in oxygen use scenarios in Zambian hospitals and industries.

Diaphragm type regulator
Flow control is more precise and responsive, suitable for ICU, neonatology and other scenarios that require precise oxygen therapy. It is used in some tertiary hospitals and specialized hospitals in Zambia.
Click/Knob type adjuster
Easy to operate, with clear markings, suitable for non professional users such as home care and primary clinics. Its proportion in Zambia’s home oxygen therapy and community healthcare is gradually increasing.

2、 Classified by Function and Configuration

Regulator with flowmeter

Integrated flow meter, which can intuitively adjust and monitor oxygen flow, is a mainstream configuration in hospitals, clinics, emergency vehicles and other scenarios, widely used in Zambian hospitals and emergency systems.

Pediatric/neonatal regulator

The flow range is small (such as 0.2-1.35 LPM), the structure is more refined, and it is suitable for oxygen therapy in newborns and low birth weight infants. It is used in Zambia’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and pediatric hospitals.

High flow regulator

The flow rate can reach 50-70 LPM and is used for high demand scenarios such as emergency treatment, anesthesia, and ventilators. It is configured in large hospitals and emergency centers in Zambia.

Adjustable traffic type vs non adjustable traffic type

Adjustable flow type: With adjustable flow and wide applicability, it is the mainstream choice for oxygen therapy in Zambian hospitals and homes.

Non adjustable flow type: Fixed flow, simple structure, low cost, suitable for specific treatment or primary healthcare scenarios.

3、 Classified by interface standards and gas source types

CGA 540 interface regulator

Used for large H-type oxygen cylinders, commonly used in hospital central oxygen supply and large gas cylinder systems, widely used in Zambian hospitals.

CGA 870 interface regulator

Used for small E-type portable oxygen cylinders, suitable for emergency vehicles, home oxygen therapy, mobile medical and other scenarios, with a high proportion in Zambia’s emergency and home care.

DISS 1240 and other secure interfaces

Anti misconnection design, used to connect ventilators, anesthesia machines and other equipment, applied in Zambian hospitals and specialized medical care.

Cooperate with the regulator of the oxygen concentrator/oxygen concentrator

Used for exporting oxygen concentrators, regulating pressure and flow, and used in conjunction with oxygen concentrators in Zambian home oxygen therapy and primary clinics.
